Summary

A substantial number of smart grid developments took place in June 2014, including product launches, fundraising events and the announcement and completion of contracts and projects. Two major acquisitions took place in June. One was the acquisition of GRIDiant Corporation, a utility analytics company, by Landis+Gyr, a global leader in energy management solutions. Another major acquisition was that of a 65% stake in Hunan Switchgear, a China-based power distribution and service provider and manufacturer, for RMB50m ($8.1m), by Wasion Group Holdings, an investment holding company that offers energy measurement equipment, systems, and services in China. Eight contracts were completed between June and July 2014. Some of the key players that won contracts were Doble Engineering, Alstom, Cyan, Itron, Avantha Group, and Corix. A total of 15 fundraising events took place in June. Sevcon, Electrovaya, Wasion Group, CBD Energy, Exelon Corporation, Johnson Controls, AltaLink, and Delmarva Power & Light Company raised funds through private public offerings. Proterra, Geodigital International, and Innovari raised funds through venture financing. Other announcements were regarding appointments, management changes and investment. A total of 10 projects were reported in June.
