Summary

A substantial number of smart grid developments took place in January 2015, including product launches, fundraising, and the announcement and completion of contracts and projects. Seven contracts were completed between December and January 2015. Some of the key players that won contracts were Cyan Holdings, Survalent Technology, Silver Spring Networks, BYD Company, Seeo, ABB, and Landis+Gyr. ABB was awarded a contract worth $40m from Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to provide two new 220 kilovolt (kV) substations in Polpitiya and Padukka and to modernize the existing substation in Pannipitiya, Sri Lanka. Another major contract was AJ Greentech Holdings, a company involved in the development, manufacture and distribution of green energy, signing an agreement with BYD Company to manufacture components for three units of BYD’s K9 electric bus models in China. Other announcements were made regarding appointments, management changes, and investment. Five projects were reported in January.
