Over the past decade Equatorial Guinea successfully developed a gas industry, initially settled as a flare reduction measure. With the success of its first LNG train, the Government has agreed in 2011 to the development of a second train which would deliver its first production in 2016.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
