Summary

The Djermaya refinery has been commissioned in June 2011 together with a new power plant. The refinery has a capacity of 20,000 bbl/d, which can later be increased to 60,000 bbl/d. As a result, there was a twofold decrease of gasoline and diesel prices in 2011.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
