Summary

Bulgaria’s new Law on Renewable Energy was approved in April 2011, aiming at stemming the current surge in solar and wind power projects. Bulgaria and Russia intend to sign the EPC contract on Belene nuclear power plant in June 2011 for an investment that should not exceed €6.3bn.
These actions are occurring as Europe is facing the consequences of the economic and financial crisis. Europe’s consumptions shrank by 5% and primary production faced a noticeable drop as well. The trade deficit was reduced by 8%, respectively due to substantial cuts in energy imports.
