Summary

According to Sonelgaz, Algeria aims to invest at least $60bn in renewables by 2030. The program is already planning to reach 650 MW of electricity from alternative energy in 2015 and 2,700 MW by 2020. Africa’s total energy production slightly fell by around 2%. Hydrocarbons producing countries of which Algeria and Nigeria were more largely impacted. Furthermore the net exporting region Africa experienced a cut of 6% in its trade surplus.

Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
